ARBITRATION TEAM RESULTS

November 10, 2008

Dear TMSL students, faculty, and staff,

On behalf of the James M. Douglas Board of Advocates, I want to congratulate our BOA Regional Arbitration Team for its success!

The team, composed of four talented senior BOA members, represented Thurgood Marshall School of Law this weekend at the American Bar Association (ABA) Regional Arbitration Competition at Texas Tech University School of Law in Lubbock, Texas.

Third-year law students, Nikiah Hawkins, Alma Reyes, Reshae Ridley, and Fran Watson, dedicated an enormous amount of time and effort in preparation for the regional competition. They practiced almost every day, including rigorous 8-hour Saturdays.

The Arbitration Team won both preliminary rounds, high scores, and praise from the judges which catapulted them to the top four teams in the region. The TMSL Arbitration Team was one of four teams which made it to the Semi-Final Round. Although they did not win the semi-final round against Texas Tech University School of Law's team (the National Arbitration Champs from last year), our Arbitration team still has a chance of advancing to the National Arbitration Competition!

These students are making history and we thank them for representing Thurgood Marshall School of Law. Please congratulate these students and spread the word about this success!

Sincerely,

Victoria Neave
BOA Chief Justice
